Learn to Spey Cast

Spey casting is a tremendous way to cover water and make long casts without a lot of backcast room. My teaching method simplifies Spey casting down to easily digestible chunks and builds on your existing fly fishing knowledge.
Spey casting is a tremendous way to cover water and make long casts without a lot of backcast room. Invented in Scotland in the 1800s to contend with tree lined river banks, the method has since evolved into three distinct groups: Traditional, Scandinavian and Skagit. In this course we will teach you how to Spey cast using any the three methods you may prefer.

This course is intended for the beginner with little or no Spey casting experience. We will cover:

  • the fundamentals of a two-handed overhead cast
  • the fundamentals of Spey casting
  • the Switch cast
  • the Single Spey or Circle Spey
  • the Double Spey

By the end of the four hour session, the client will be able to make these three casts with reasonable proficiency.
